Kait Kerrigan started writing plays and musicals while she was an English major at Barnard College. She has gone on to win the Kleban Award, as well as the Jonathan Larson Award, and she was nominated by Lynn Ahrens as Theatre Hall of Fame’s Most Promising Lyricist.
Her work spans genres and styles and pushes the boundaries of what musicals and theater talk about. First and foremost, Kerrigan is a collaborator who loves cracking story and song with other writers and creatives.
From creating original musicals to adapting novels to jumping into the deep in on a project that is months away from production, Kerrigan greets each step as an opportunity to connect, develop, and expand the emotional territory of what theater can do.
She lives in Maplewood with her two children and her husband, lyricist Nathan Tysen.
Kait Kerrigan has four musicals opening in 2023: THE TIME TRAVELLER’S WIFE (West End), THE GREAT GATSBY (Papermill Playhouse), INDIGO (Human Race Theatre), JUSTICE (Marin Theatre Company). Other musicals include THE MAD ONES; THE BAD YEARS; REPUBLIC; HENRY AND MUDGE; and THE BAD YEARS. Plays include FATHER/DAUGHTER, IMAGINARY LOVE. Digital: A KILLER PARTY. Awards: Kleban, Jonathan Larson, Most Promising Lyricist from the Theatre Hall of Fame, Edgerton; and residencies at Page 73, Dramatists Guild Fellows, Rhinebeck, Goodspeed’s Johnny Mercer Project, and MacDowell. Alumna of Barnard College and the BMI Musical Theatre Workshop and member of the Dramatists Guild. @kaitkerrigan
